February 13th, 2008
This is actually a post about the second half of last evening's adventures, but I'm posting it first because chronological order is for sissies. (Or for people who are good at those math problems involving sequences. I was an English major, myself.)
Anyway, after providing a lead to the MacDonald Bridge (don't worry, that will make sense later) (well, for a given value of "sense") I turned back around and made my way to Tribeca. Adam and Rob played a set as a duo at first and then were joined by Shaun on drums (I dunno how long he's been playing those songs but he sounded pretty comfortable) and then on the second set they were a four-piece with Mike on bass.
It was a pretty low-key vibe, but the interesting thing was that a few of the arrangements were... I don't know, heavier? than I seem to recall. The evolution from the demo stage is an interesting one anyway, and this kind of thing keeps you paying attention.
Rob mentioned at one point that Chris Denny is hoping to come up to the Maritimes and play a few shows sometime in the reasonably near future. (Please God, not the last week of May!) so although you can't see me right now you can imagine me spinning around in excitement in my chair. I can only imagine how great he'd be live.
Anyway, set list. It was truncated slightly when problems occurred with a guitar that has as far as I know never caused any trouble for anybody ever. It was like Coney biting someone. Even so, it was a good one.

So it turns out I lied to you about the Trews' listening party for their new CD, when I said there would be no actual Trews present and in the flesh.
Observe:

( More than anyone needs to know about the early part of the evening. )
But the fun still wasn't over, sort of, because the simplest thing to do seemed to be for us to get my car, drive to her car, and then have me lead the way to the Macdonald Bridge from which spot she was confident she could find her way easily.
Which was a great idea, and we discussed exactly what route we'd be taking... and then I missed a turn and had to lead the poor girl on a merry chase all around Robin Hood's barn until we finally got back to the route we'd originally discussed.
Although the route we took did end up taking us by the corner at Hollis and Morris Street, which is significant for Trews-related reasons.
I heard from her this morning (when she sent the picture) and she got home fine, if possibly a little tired.
And I am definitely getting the album.

Okay, just in case any regular readers of this journal are out there thinking, "Wait for it, the next post is going to be all about character-kidnapping with reference to various members of the Trews"...
Done! Already done! And let me just tell you, I now feel a dozen times worse about killing off Caleb, although this being a murder mystery I really, really have to leave him dead.
I may, however, go back and give him startlingly blue eyes...

...We had another snowstorm today.
And for anyone who is starting to feel down in the mouth about this fact, here's a little guy who probably thinks this weather is the BEST!
I should sell the Honda and buy some huskies...

The local public library system has started sending out notifications by email. Which is dead convenient for me, but for some reason the formatting of the messages is a little wonky so the text of the message always includes the first part of the title and then the pickup location.
This is generally not an issue, since I usually remember what I have on hold. But I confess, this morning when I opened my email and found the following message, I was confused:
Notice date: 02/13/2008
The following items are being held for you. Please come to the
library to check them out. They will be held for 5 days from the date
of this notice. Thank you.
In the spirit : conversations with Keshen Goodman Publi
I mean, I would be happy to chat with the Keshen Goodman Public Library, but who holds a full-scale conversation with a big building?
I eventually clued in and remembered which book it was (you may be astonished to hear it has something to do with Jerry Garcia!)
But just for a second there I was thinking, "Damn, I need more coffee..."
