Mrs Goodnight's dog Steve

I just today found a picture that will do for Steve, the Papillon belonging to cranky Mrs Goodnight in the Kowalski story.

Hey, I don't even like little dogs much and I think he's adorable. Jordy, with his fatal weakness for the small and fluffy, is a goner. And he gets bonus points from Mrs Goodnight for immediately realizing the dog is named after Steve McQueen.

Okay, that is just creepy. I have a story idea I'm tinkering around with and I had decided the main character was going to have a Papillon, too. Have you mentioned that before and I just forgot?

I picked it because I wanted a small, not yippy, smart dog. It was between that and a Powderpuff (a Chinese crested with hair). Maybe I'll have to go back to the Powderpuff...

Oh, and I think mine is named Veruca, because the main character (she doesn't have a name yet), likes things that make her seem quirky :)

Hee. I love your name rationale.

I went back through my "jordy" tag and I guess I mention Steve the Papillon at least once. But there's no reason we can't both have one! What colour is Veruca? Steve is black and white, although I guess the little dude in the picture is tricolour. Also, as a Willy Wonka fan I assume Veruca is a she? No problem! Just if you find a picture of a model for Veruca anywhere, please post it so I can go awww...

Yes, Veruca is a girl, and has some interesting habits that I haven't completely fleshed out yet.

I'm thinking something more like this little guy. Veruca is very intense and intuitive. Doesn't this dog look contemplative?

But this Powderpuff is absolutely adorable. The only problem is that it says they don't like to be handled and I envision her being carried around a la Paris Hilton's dog:

They're both charming! The Papillon in your picture looks smarter than some people I know. Possibly including me.

The Powderpuff is darling, but I'm imagining the Papillon's ears peeking out of your character's shoulder bag and I confess, I am smitten!

And thanks for talking about this with me. I'm new to the writing thing and sometimes I think David gets a little bored talking about dogs that don't exist or what kind of clothing an imaginary person would wear. It's nice to have someone who gets it :)

I'd love to chat with you about your ideas. Please keep sharing whatever ideas you want, and I'll be all over the entries or comments. When you write yourself, talking about writing is so much fun!
