Just make sure your husband understands that they cannot be trusted off-leash, ever. (There are rare exceptions to this rule but very few.) They have no homing instinct and like nothing better than to run in straight lines (with breaks to hunt anything non-human that moves) and in general terms can't be expected to come home until they have circumnavigated the globe. No, really! Bred by nomads!
Yes, that's precisely why we haven't gotten one yet. We love the fact that we can trust our Danes *anywhere* on the farm. They never go off the property and they *always* come when they're called. It's so nice to go for a ride or a hike and know that the dogs can come with us without causing trouble. I don't want to have to keep a Siberian on a leash all the time, or chained, or in a kennel. Husband thinks we have enough space to build a big dog run or something, but what's the point? I'd rather choose a breed more suited to our lifestyle.
But they are incredible dogs, that's for certain. We're going to Colorado for my sister's wedding just after Christmas and we're hoping to take a ride in a dog sled - maybe that will give him his fix! :)
Over the weekend I had a long chat with a friend of my brother's about her Dane. I don't know much about the breed and it was a lot of fun to hear about their quirks and so on. They sound like really awesome dogs!

They are gorgeous dogs, though...
But the CHARM of them... SO beautiful...
