Just touching base here before I head to the barn. Since Mitzi is shoeless and it's icy and snowy in the pen, she's officially on vacation until the spring. Last year this had exactly zero effect on her behaviour when I started riding her again: inconsistent work affects her behaviour, but a long break last winter didn't. Mind you, it's gotten to be winter much earlier this year. Anyway, I just want to get her out of the stall and fuss over her some.
I do need to check a spot on her hoof where a small coronet band cut is growing out--I don't think it's a big deal but she has a small superficial crack so I think I'd better put hoof dressing on it.
Stopped at the tack shop yesterday and bought a pair of actual winter riding boots. They're lace-up Ariats with a good tread. My summer work boots are not bad and will accommodate woolly socks, but the tread is worn off them and I was beginning to worry about breaking my neck.
Also, the other night I caught a bit of the new Miss Marple on TV. The stories are mauled for television but the Miss Marple is charming. She is, however, not a very fluffy Miss Marple, and it's just occurred to me that the actress would actually be a perfect Miss Silver, if BBC ever chose to adapt those books for television. Damn, I wish someone besides me had thought of that!!
Okay--out of time, so ho for the barn. If I hit the Attic tonight for Paul Maybee and the Critics I'll let you know how it goes.
