I've got the iPod thingie working and have loaded it with a random selection of about a hundred songs--I only got a few CDs loaded on the laptop this morning, but this should keep me busy during bus rides for a while. Whee!
I'm in love with my iPod too. Only I got the Nano. With video. So when I'm stuck in the back of an ambulance in the middle of winter I can at least watch a movie. Take that work!
One of my friends recommended the Nano, but I was in love with the tininess and the clip so I don't drop it. I'll probably upgrade eventually but this is a fun way to start.
I'm loving my shuffle too - I can listen to music in any room of the house as I do my chores, and I can listen when I walk out to the pasture for feeding and such. It's perfect!
Honestly, once you've switched over to an MP3 player, you'll wonder how you ever managed with a cd player! I've got a 1G Creative Zen Stone and it's pretty damned adorable!
Next thing you'll be discovering podcasts. :) I love my iPod because I can have music in the car or when doing housework. I've also put the Welsh dialogues from the course CD on there so I can practice my Welsh and I listen to SF stories from EscapePod and also the Friday night comedy slot from the BBC Radio 4, which I normally miss.
My car has neither a CD player nor a USB socket, but it does have a tape player. So I got the gadget that plugs into the iPod and on the other end it has a fake cassette tape, which thus enables the iPod to play through the car's speakers.
I had that same gadget for the Cursed Corolla, which only had a tape deck. I plugged my disc player into it. It was pretty cool, but not cool enough to make me miss that car.

My car has a CD player, but I understand a lot of newer cars have a jack for an mp3 player. Genius, I call that.
