I still haven't listened to the whole CD all the way through because I haven't been home at night lately, and I don't like to listen to new CDs in my car. I distract so easily.
However--I listened to about half of Up the Bracket last night (I got as far as "one for the boys in the band," and now
dachelle's journal layout makes more sense to me) and now I think that, rather than futzing around with the library, or downloading files to iTunes and all (I really appreciate the trouble you took,
dachelle, but for some reason downloads on this thing take forever)--anyway, I think I'll just buy a couple of CDs on Tuesday when I get the new Trews one. I have a list!
Also, as the CD was playing I noticed that Coney was missing. I found him here:

Note CD player in the background. Yes, he went over to listen. (Coney has previously been mostly a U2 fan.)
So, we agree!

Yeah, all my links and headers on my LJ layout are either from Libs/DPT/Shambles/Peter lyrics, or from things Carl has said in interviews.
Is your version of UtB the one with "What a Waster" and "Mockingbird" on it? There are a couple of different ones floating around out there.
Oh, and tell Coney I like U2, too! Sort of an unpopular opinion amongst Libs fans, but I don't care. They're amazing. Worlds away from the Libs, but still amazing.
Vlad, by the way, likes Joel Plaskett, but being black and white I'm sure he'll take to Peter as well!
"What a Waster" is fun because there's a lot of curse words in it. I like to sing along when I'm driving, because I get pissed off at people easily when I'm driving. And I love "Mockingbird." They did an impromptu version on MTV Gonzo at the end of this clip (not my fave interview with them - there's some uncomfortable moments here, and you can tell it's kind of the beginning of the end for Peter and Carl):
2) I see the uncomfortable thing--Carl hardly speaks at all four about the first three minutes!
And yet--
3) They seem to like each other better when they're playing. (The bit where Peter holds the guitar together while Carl plays it is cute.) I'm reminded of The Last Waltz, by which time I don't think Levon would have spit on Robbie if he was on fire... and yet they still looked happy onstage. It's like the musical relationship is totally separate from the personal one, and strong in its own way. The musician in my murder mystery should reflect on that at some point.
Cool.
Also, I checked the track listing on the catalogue and I think the library copy is not the US one, so the Canadian release might be closer to the British one.
There was a lot going on between them at the time that the second Gonzo interview was done - I should write up a history of the Libs if you're interested.
Let me know if you're missing anything from the album. I can upload some b-sides for you anyway.
This makes me sad (from 2005):
