"Be on my side, I'll be on your side..."

The weather predictions for last night were so bad that I half-expected CTV to resurrect Lorne Greene to read them, which may have been one reason the evening got off to a slow start. And then when the apocalypse was apparently delayed (in fact, rather than a winter storm of any proportion, all Halifax seems to be getting is rain and that began after 2:00) people began showing up in bunches, special guests joined in, and the dance floor was, if not crowded, then at least significantly occupied.

Set List
Set #1--Adam on acoustic guitar and Rob on keys

  • Leanin On the Wind
  • Empty Streets
  • No Stone
  • Means To Fly
  • "We could have been heroes"
  • Couldn't identify this one
  • Ballad of Dan Mattie
  • Light At the End of the Tunnel

  • Break
Set #2--Adam (electric guitar), Rob, Mike, Bryan

  • All the Colours
  • Walks Away
  • Desperately Dreaming
  • No Telling When (I think this is my favourite of theirs right now)
  • Can I See You Again?
  • Witch Doctor
  • Walk Of Life (Dire Straits, although just for a second at the very beginning of the introduction, I thought for some reason they were going into Lay Down Sally... which I cannot explain)
  • Lady In the Cold

  • Break
Set #3--Adam, Rob, Mike, Bryan, and a couple of guests

  • Dark End Of the Street (Adam moved back to acoustic guitar and the guitar player from Metric System joined in on electric)
  • Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues (Dylan)
  • Stir It Up (Bob Marley, with the special guest on lead vocals and Scotty on cowbell)
  • I'm In A Phone Booth, Baby (Albert King, guest on vocals)
[At which point the first guest guitarist left and Evan from Gloryhound came up to join in]
  • The Night They Drive Old Dixie Down (The Band, Adam and Evan on vocals)
  • Meet Me In the Morning (Dylan, Evan: vocals)
  • Don't Do It (The Band, Evan: vocals, and this was when the dancing really broke out)
  • Down By the River (Neil Young, Evan: vocals) (It was no surprise to learn these guys know this song, and really cool to hear it)
  • All Day & All Of The Night (The Kinks, and by this time Adam had moved over to keys, Rob was on bass, and Mike was playing acoustic guitar)

  • For a night that began with such predictions of sleet and snow and gloom of night, it turned out really pretty cheery!

I am disappointed with this winter. I don't generally like winter, but everyone was predicting this to be the worst winter ever. It's not. At least not in Halifax. Maybe we'll have an early spring after all.

It's been more confusing than anything. On Sunday the winter hair was just dropping off Mitzi, and then last night she wasn't shedding at all. And it's hard to plan anything that involves driving because the specific weather we've been getting makes the roads so nasty.

And then it all melts. Huh.

It's also hard to know what to wear. I want to start wearing sneakers dammit!

I've given up on having a snow day this year.
